An Open House

I'm happy being blue!
I've decided to have a Spring Open House on my website

todayMonday, April 28th at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time. I hope you'll have a chance to stop in (teaser picture above!) Last weekend my Mom and I went on a little trip and found some neat old things. I've been sewing lots of one of a kinds also. I have so many ideas but never enough time....is their anyone who knows anything about time management??? Also I'm going to add a sale tab ~ I've been cleaning house!
I've been working with lots of blues lately....my favorite color! It just makes me happy. I have it everywhere. My home is predominately in blues. My sewing room walls are even painted "atmosphere blue", a wonderful Restoration Hardware paint color. Someday I will show you pictures of that room but at the moment it is a mess. I even found this neat old wire gate last weekend which I have a new garden already planned out in my head for that!Speaking of gardening the wild violets are blooming here in PA.

Lydia and I love to sit in the yard and pick a large little bouquet. They smell heavenly when in a vase. She also loves to eat their sweet little petals.


Did you know that an ounce of violets has five times more vitamin C than a glass of orange juice and about three times more vitamin A than spinach. Hows that for a fact. I'm sure I'm know as the crazy plant lady here in the neighborhood ~ hee hee!
This morning I watched the robins gathering weeds and dried grass for a nest. I think they are amazing...little miracles really. Can you imagine making your "nest" with your mouth? We need our thumbs! I watched them yesterday to see where they are building but I think they were on to me. Such busy little things they are. This morning after Lydia went to school I came back and watched again from the window and found it. Soon it will be filled with pretty blue eggs. It will be fun to watch the little birds grow also. Now didn't I tie that all in nicely?? Have a BLUE sky sunny day today!

A Spring Snow?

The "locals" tell us that this sort of weather is normal for this time of year....but I think they are just as surprised by our indecisive weather as we are and don't want to admit it!

Our family lives in Boise, Idaho and last week we woke up to an inch of snow! Then last weekend, we had temps in the 60's (which was wonderful!) with spring-like weather.

Who knows what this weekend may hold?? Sleeting hail? Oh wait, we had that this morning.

Spring has finally sprung!

At least it has here on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. The weather has been wonderful lately! Today the sun was shining, a breeze was blowing, the birds were on my deck singing ~ I had the French doors open so we could watch one another, and I had a load of laundry on the line, flapping in the breeze. I pruned some bushes and vines, and totally cut some down that were killed last year after a late spring freeze. I left them last year hoping they would revive, but no such luck. We already have onions peeping out of the ground! We planted cabbage last week, and today, my husband plowed, tilled, and planted potatoes while I went grocery shopping ~ something that only reinforced the reason we are planting a larger garden this year ~ have you noticed the prices of food items lately? Now if we can only buy a milk cow, lol! In the meantime, just look what arrived early the first day of Spring! Gypsy, our Tennessee Walking horse, had a baby! His name is Smokey and mama is so proud of him! Please visit my personal blog to read more about him this weekend.

that would become an art doll to benefit  Susan G. Komen

For the Cure.

The completed doll will be mailed to

Art Doll Quarterly

before finally being auctioned off on eBay

with all proceeds to directly benefit the Komen Foundation.

So many of us have been touched in some way by

Breast Cancer, either mom, sister, daughter, even 

ourselves, that Monica received a HUGE response from artist

community.

I'd like to thank Monica whole heartedly for her vision, for

her caring & for all the work she's put into this endeavor.

My Stalker...

If you are on my mailing list or visit my blog, you have been introduced to Tweedle Dum, hatched by one of my hens, not a turkey hen, but a chicken, then let loose when he was only a couple months old. He never really left, roosting in the trees at night and flying back down to the chicken pen in the mornings. He will be 4 years old this summer. We are nearly surrounded by woods, not another house in sight, but he will not venture into the unknown, even when he hears another tom gobbling or a hen calling. Lately, he's been stalking my daughter and I when we go outside. I can see him following me out of the corner of my eye and when I stop and turn to look at him, he stops too, silly boy! This morning, when I went out to feed the chickens, instead of staying with them as usual, he followed me back to the basement door, and kept pacing back and forth, waiting for me to come back out.... I think not. He has changed in the last few weeks, and though he would come within a couple of feet before, now he is acting as if to challenge someone or something. Someone please tell him he'd better go back to being the sweet, timid thing he was, or someone will be having turkey and dressing for Easter!



We finally got snow last night and this morning! I know some of you are ready for spring, but I was so excited to see the snow falling.
